Josh Mahan is a Brooklyn based Director, Stop-Motion Animator and Production Designer originally from North Carolina. His work has been featured on Portlandia, CollegeHumor, the cult web-series The Adventures of Ledo and Ix and the documentary The Magic of Heineken. His work as Lead Animator on Leah Meyerhoff’s debut feature I Believe in Unicorns has been lauded by critics from Variety to the New York Times. His short films Awaken and Bolt have screened at festivals across the US, Europe and Asia including SXSW, Coachella, Waterfront FF, and SLIFF, taking home multiple Best Animation awards. His commercial clients include Nick Jr., IBM, Verizon, Cadbury and Delta.
His recent work as Lead Animator and Art Director on the stop-motion short Bartleby by Laura Naylor (Duck Beach to Eternity, The Fix) will premiere at Aspen Shortsfest 2017. He is currently in preproduction Directing Capsule, a stop-motion sci-fi short film starring Tim Blake Nelson, and as Lead Animator on The Grave Of St. Oran Directed by Jim Batt (Jay Z: The War on Drugs Is an Epic Fail) narrated by Neil Gaiman.
